In its third edition, starting on Saturday 13 May, Maremma Challenge becomes "Bikepacking", designing its proposal around that contemporary cyclist who wants to test himself, but first of all experience emotions, in contact with nature and history .
500 km in hidden Tuscany, along a route fueled by the desire to convey wonder, that a magnificent territory, often left intact, crossed by roads and paths that are perfect for experiencing in the saddle.
The event is aimed at gravel and mtb (including e-bike) enthusiasts, who will also find technical sections dedicated to them, not to forget the fun that a single track in the woods can give.
The route is circular, starting and finishing in Massa Marittima.
The route winds through medieval villages and protected natural areas, such as the Maremma Park, the beech woods of Monte Amiata, the extraordinary Cities of Tufo, the Argentario Promontory, Castiglione della Pescaia and Punta Ala, to mention only the most famous places .
No classification (except for those who want the ARI Off-road patent), if not informal (even to record the time of the fastest - man and woman - every year to add spice for those who love to push on the pedals), but an experience to be experienced according to one's own approach: in search of the thrill of a ride at night, of a speed record, of something precious to share with a friend.
Maremma Challenge Bikepacking is to be experienced independently, but with great attention to safety: all participants will be equipped with a live tracking device and there will be checkpoints.
However, there will be no assistance along the route, which must be completed within a maximum time of 80 hours.
Before the start, on Friday 12th, in the spirit of Massa Marittima, there will be not only the delivery of bibs and the briefing, but also a live party, to start with the right energy. Maremma Challenge in fact aims to be an event that focuses on the cyclist's experience and the discovery of the area, but which also wants to convey the warmth of a culture that has always been open to "foreigners".
In October, it repeats, with an Adventure + formula, which caters to those who want to experience a strong emotion, but also fully enjoy the welcome of the territory: 10 intermediate stages, to be tackled in 5 days, overnight in hotel, meals included - with attention to the flavors of the territory - assistance along the way. A proposal built around e-bikes, with battery change.
Maremma Challegne was born from the idea of Giovanni Pettinari, founder of MaremmaMe ASD, a great connoisseur of the area, engaged for years in the development of the Maremma circuit, and created thanks to the contribution of Ernesto Hutmacher and his team of Bike Garage & More ( BGM):
“The keywords of the project are emotion, fun and safety”, say the organizers.
