In Rio the Swedish Jenny Rissveds wins in a very hard-fought race. The race saw constant shuffling with Switzerland's Linda Indergrand leading the race for 2 laps when the very favorites Jolanda Neff, Rissveds and Wloszczowska took the lead.
Halfway through the race, Jolanda Neff takes the lead but Rissveds and Wloszczowska don't give up. Meanwhile Annika Langvad doesn't find the right rhythm while behind the leading trio we find, at about 15 ″, Batty, Dahle, Indergrand and Nash. Further back the Pendrel and Langvad.
Downhill JennyRissveds proves to have an edge, even compared to the very strong Jolanda Neff. She earns a few seconds but Neff doesn't give up. During the 4th lap Jenny Rissveds continues to force and Neff takes off, with Wloszczowska holding on with difficulty. Jolanda Neff at the start of lap 5 has 29 ”from the first two, while behind the group of Pendrel, Batty and Nash she is 57 seconds behind. Linda Indergrand is at 1'31 "and Annika Langvad, after a puncture, is even further behind 1'54".
In the last 2 laps it is a 2-way fight between Rissveds and Wloszczowska but during the last lap the Swede manages to gain in the more technical sections and to win with a narrow advantage over the Pole. Bronze medal for Catharine Pendrel. The only Italian in the race, Eva Lechner, concludes in 18th position at 8'30 ”without ever, unfortunately, having entered the heart of the race.
