Mathieu went to Canyon's headquarters in Koblenz, Germany today (Monday, March 18) to sign the contract.
Canyon expects the current world road and cyclocross champion to put his bikes on the top step of the podium for many years to come. He has a phenomenal track record with Canyon bikes, with 163 wins on the road, cyclocross and mountain bikes since late 2017, when his partnership with Canyon began.
A COMMON DESIRE TO CONTINUE TO OVERCOME THE LIMITS
Canyon doubles its partnership with this unprecedented length contract for a rider of the modern era, to secure Mathieu's place in the pantheon of the greatest of all time.
Mathieu's winning mentality is shared by Canyon Bicycles which, since its origins in 2002, has invested in athletes and performance cycling as a pioneer of technological innovations.
CEO Nicolas De Ros Wallace: “Underpinning the collaboration is a collective desire to continually push boundaries and elevate performance. Mathieu's pursuit of the best is a true inspiration for our engineers and product development teams.”
Mathieu van der Poel: “Canyon has been an incredible partner. We have developed bikes that have helped me succeed in the Classics, World Championships and Grand Tours. But I'm still incredibly hungry for success. There are several milestones on my radar, including the Paris Olympics this summer.”
Echoing his sentiments at the finish line of the 2024 Cyclocross World Championships, Mathieu van der Poel highlighted the shared ethics and trust that lead to race-winning bicycles: “In road cycling, cyclocross and mountain biking, the Canyon's research and development teams are dedicated to creating race-winning bikes, and I'm proud to help develop these products. We share the same winning mentality and, with this new contract, we are fully aligned on our ambitions for the next phase of my career."
Canyon's commitment to Mathieu van der Poel is a strong signal of the group's investment in providing the world's best athletes with the best possible material to continue winning the biggest races. Roman Arnold and GBL, as co-owners of the company, are aligned on this long-term vision. In a separate deal, Canyon extended its terms with Alpecin-Deceuninck, continuing the winning relationship with the team that began in late 2017.
Alpecin-Deceuninck team management Philip and Christoph Roodhooft: “Since signing with Canyon we have had a long-term vision to create the first ever multidisciplinary team, built with the best and most talented riders of their generation. This goal is only achievable with the support of partners who build world-class high-performance products and share the same hunger to win. Our new contract with Canyon is a significant milestone for the future development of all the talented riders who will join the Alpecin-Deceuninck and Fenix-Deceuninck riders.”
Mathieu will be in action in the Belgian classics E3 and Gent-Wevelgem, followed by the spring monuments, the Tour of Flanders, Paris-Roubaix, Amstel Gold and Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
