JUNIORS MEN
On a track that was only slightly damp due to the drops of water that rained down at dawn, Samuele Scappini (Team Fortebraccio) immediately puts it into fourth gear to repeat last year's title, chased by an increasingly small group of men. The DP66 Giant SMP tandem Stefano Viezzi-Tommaso Cafueri emerged from the tussle, with Viezzi taking advantage of the silver and Cafueri shedding tears of joy on the podium for the bronze achieved. The two of them were also returning from the Team Relay run yesterday (and won by Selle Italia Guerciotti).
This is the immediate comment of the two-champion Scappini: «I immediately bet to win, the sports director told me "give it all" and I did it: I'm exhausted! I thank all those who are close to me. Now I'm taking a bit of time to do the best I can at the World Cup."
JUNIORES WOMEN
In the meantime, under the rain that has returned to the Camping Village Roma Capitol, the three take advantage: Arianna Bianchi (Guerciotti Development) former MTB European champion, the reigning Italian and European vice-champion Valentina Corvi of the Trinx Factory Team, and the 'experienced Federica Venturelli (Selle Italia Guerciotti). Venturelli runs into a moment of difficulty which leads her to be overtaken by Sara Tarallo and Greta Pighi, but then she makes the decisive tailspin which ensures her the podium. Up front, meanwhile, Corvi is glacial in the conduct of the race: she stays close as long as she serves, she finds the right moment to launch the gold attack and leave Bianchi an excellent silver.
This is the immediate comment by Valentina Corvi (second last year in Friuli behind Sophie Auer): «I really wanted to take this Italian championship, I took the decisive meters on Arianna at the point and at the moment when I knew that my characteristics they would guarantee my success. Winning your country's shirt is always an important goal. I dedicate this title to the sporting director Bramati and to all my family.»
MALE UNDER 23
Here too we see a trio leading. This time, all from the same team, Selle Italia Guerciotti: Filippo Agostinacchio (already opening fractionist yesterday in the victorious Team Relay), Ettore Loconsolo and Samuele Leone. During the race, the engine revs of Lorenzo Masciarelli (Colpack Ballan) increase, which joins the breakaway, while Loconsolo and Leone progressively lose contact. The latter resists in third place and puts the bronze medal around his neck, while a few meters ahead of him Agostinacchio launches the decisive sprint out of the last corner: Masciarelli can only sketch the reaction and is second.
This is the immediate comment of the triumphant Filippo Agostinacchio: «I'm speechless, I arrived calmly at these Italian championships despite coming from a week in Belgium characterized by some health problems. I had a lot of fun, we managed to play as a team and react to Masciarelli's good attempt. Congratulations to Samuele (Leone, ed) who had a lot of bad luck and we weren't able to finish as a couple.»
A triumph for Selle Italia Guerciotti, which after the Team Relay brings home the U23 flag with the athlete from Valle d'Aosta.
MALE ELITE
Philip Fontana grabs the tricolor Elite title after having made an authentic collection in his youth profile. The athlete from the Carabinieri Olympia Vittoria Sports Center places his paw in the last lap of the Camping Village Roma Capitol circuit, in a race that sees him finish at the head of the group of five men who animated and fought for the race.
