365 in October is docked in Fréjus for the Roc d'Azur, the reference mountain bike fair in Europe, an unmissable event for lovers of sport and the great outdoors, a meeting point since 1984 where builders and riders celebrate the end of the season. This year Selle Italia presented the new X-BOW at the fair, an Al-Mountain saddle that I first tested on the Fréjus hills during my first granfondo, or rather, my first race!
The race I participated in was the Rando Roc Odyssey. More than 820 competitors, 660 meters of total altitude difference and about 33 km in length, the Rando Roc Odyssey is the perfect race for all those who want to feel the liveliness of the competition but do not like fatigue, and if in addition to fatigue you do not like to arrive late at the buffet, E-BIKES were also allowed.
The departures were staggered, fifteen minutes apart from each other, I started with the last group and behind the starting line I thought about how surreal that moment was. I never expected to compete in a granfondo for the first time, perhaps because I am more passionate about gravity, or perhaps because I have never trained seriously.
After starting, the "Sprintoni" gave a show preparing to collapse along the first climb, I with my short and young experience as a biker hoped not to feel possible discomfort from the new and unknown saddle. I started pedaling enjoying the views that the Costa Azzura offered me and after finishing the first climb, I was amazed by the inexistence of any kind of problem or annoyance. When I arrived at the first descent I let loose making the most of that Canyon that the LDL COMETA and SELLE ITALIA guys had given me for the test.
Unfortunately in the final stages of the so-called race, a perfidious staircase, it was promising me a nice cramp in my right calf, but the journey we traveled by the sea helped to alleviate the fears of a possible and painful cramp.
The last two kilometers I pedaled and thought about the buffet, I was happy with how that first race had gone, full of fun and without unexpected events. Once I got past the finish line, I spent a good twenty minutes gorging myself on food at the buffet, alternating sweets and salty things with fruit, drinking liters of water and other things that I would never have drunk if I hadn't been hungry.
The day ended with a careful and scrupulous search for the placement, which turned out to be the 138th in front of 828 competitors, we hope to do better next time!
Returning to the description of the saddle, the X-BOW is designed for Al-Mountain suitable for both E-bike disciplines and Gravel terrains.
With this new product, the Treviso-based company aims at a type of customer oriented towards comfort, focused on off-road vehicles and price-conscious. The new hybrid is presented as a new, innovative and technological product, capable of completing the Selle Italia Off-Road range.
