El Tricolor Colombiano waved at the Rally di Sardegna Mountain Bike 2022. The ninth edition was won by Diego Arias, vice-champion of the MTB Marathon world, who finished with a flourish by winning the fourth stage in Bari Sardo on Saturday 11 June. The standard bearer of the Hubbers Polimedical Official Team was the only one to fall below the race hour in the special stage of 18,5 km drawn between Coccorrocci and La Spiaggetta di Gairo, part of a final 45,7 km stage starting and I arrive from the Aragonese Torre di Barì.
Starting among the last ones in the special stage, Arias - already on the mark in the first stage - first "leveled" the uphill dirt road up to Genna Tuvera, and then tamed the downhill single track technician, which also engaged the most experienced bikers, before returning to transfer to Bari Sardo. Behind Arias, with a gap of 3'26 ”, was placed the youngest athlete of the event, Silvano Brugiafreddo (RDR Italia Leynicese Racing Team), who consolidated the absolute“ bronze ”. Third of the day, but already winner of two stages, Cypriot Andreas Miltiadis (DMT Racing Team) concluded the Rally di Sardegna MTB in second position.
“I am very happy to have won the Rally di Sardegna MTB, as well as the first and the last stage. I decided to start with the full house and before the special stage I lost some time to fix a couple of details on the bike. I immediately looked for a great pace, halfway up I returned to Brugiafreddo and downhill on Miltiadis, which then gave me the road. I got along well with the bike and felt excellent sensations also with regard to the convalescent hand: the balance is certainly positive ”, Diego Arias commented.
“The last stage was short, but demanding. A very beautiful fraction, with a wonderful view from the summit, in which I managed to confirm the second place overall. I am happy to have won the two longest stages, they gave me great confidence ”the words of the second overall, Andreas Miltiadis.
The Czech Tomas Trunschka, absolute winner in 2011, has instead conquered the special Over 40 category classification.
FASOLIS QUEEN OF THE WOMEN RACE
Among women, fourth success in four stages for Costanza Fasolis (RDR), ahead of teammate Martina Stirano, at her best performance in the four days in Ogliastra. Like yesterday, third position for Beatrice Mistretta (Bottecchia Factory Team) while Ilaria Balzarotti (Team Spaces Bike) kept the second place overall. “Today I got a bit 'in difficulty with the changes of pace, which I usually suffer - the words of Fasolis - but on the single track downhill I really enjoyed it. The Rally of Sardinia was a really nice experience, I really enjoyed the route, made up of spectacular stages. Now I can also look forward to the rest of the season with great confidence ”.
