On 23 March the Absa Cape Epic starts, the international competition that has been taking place for eleven years in South Africa: among the novelties of this edition the same prize money for men and women.
The eleventh edition of the Absa Cape Epic, which will start on March 23 to end on March 30, will run on a course of 718 kilometers in total with 14.850 meters of elevation gain, crossing the South African cities of Robertson, Greyton and Elgin, to finish eight days later in Lourensford, in the Wine Estate.
Among the many innovations that the legendary stage race offers this year, a prize money equal to that of men will be available for the participating bikers.
Absa Cape Epic 2013 winner, Yolande de Villiers: «Sport brings out the true character of a person. Therefore "Sasol Oil" (sponsor of the race) showed her character in recognizing the equality of women also in the award. This is a time for women on bikes to rejoice: for many years female bikers, who race on the same race tracks as men, have had to compete at the top of cycling without adequate and full recognition for their sacrifice. I hope that this step will give a strong signal of equality in world cycling ».
