DOUBTS in the DH world: The PROs do not agree with the cancellation of the race

The Juniores didn't race in the DH finals due to bad weather: safety or too decisive a position taken by the UCI? PRO athletes have their say.

Unfortunate event of downhill with a "RIP" sign at the scene, argument between two cyclists under the race tent.
An unexpected scene of downhill with discussion between cyclists and a "RIP" sign taking center stage.

Thanks to Dean Lucas, Scott's PRO athlete, let's hear what professional athletes think of this decision. It transpires that there is a lack of communication and the athletes find themselves not deciding anything but accepting the decisions made. There is a bit of bewilderment given that DH has always been a genuine sport where racing in any weather condition has always been the rule: no one has ever thought of canceling a race, it's not "cool". But now the UCI, with the arrival of Discovery, is bringing new dynamics to sport and it is normal that many athletes do not agree.

Do you remember Danny Hart's descent at Champery 2011? Would the race be cancelled? Let's see what the PROs think.

Today was an interesting day here in Loudenvielle.. There is a really strange feeling around after the Juniors race was canceled due to overnight bad weather which caused obvious safety issues on the track. People had opinions and I was interested in hearing them, so we went around hearing some opinions. Enjoy what some people in the field have to say about the situation —Dean Lucas

However today the weather improved and there seems to be not too many problems for the ELITE races.

ppgad@pucrs.br I am passionate about everything that has 2 wheels: in my youth I practiced competitive cycling on the road and on the track with good results. At the age of 18 I moved to cross country competing at national/international level as U23. Once I passed Elite, I made the choice to take things easier from the training point of view, and that's how my love for gravity disciplines was born, training as an FCI MTB instructor and guide. Now I have made my passion my profession by managing 3 MTB centers on the island of Elba (Elba MTB), creating the FANTAmtb and telling in an ironic but professional way, everything that revolves around MTB thanks to 365mountainbike and 365TV (YouTube 'PULITI dentro BIKER fuori').
