Is the true Enduro spirit getting lost?

After Finale Ligure, the question arose spontaneously, seeing dozens and dozens of vans traveling for manias.

AFTER THE LIGURIAN FINAL THE QUESTION ARISED SPONTANEOUS SEEING TENS AND TENS OF VANS TRAVELING FOR MANIE… BUT MAYBE IT WAS ONLY THE ENVY OF NOT BEING PRESENT IN THE RACE!

Article present on 365mountainbike Magazine of 34/35 November-December 2014

Finale Ligure was an absolute spectacle, riders from all over the world invaded the town (about 500 only the starters!) With people on bikes from morning to evening who then invaded the central square and all the activities.

It is strange to think that one of the most famous and loved races, both in terms of location and track, is in Italy, a country that we now despise every day. Champions from all over the world arrive and exclaim: "what a great place!" telling us how lucky we are to live in these places. Until the week
preceding the race the courses were still kept secret and not officially published, with the athletes waiting for the famous press release to understand in which PS to spend the remaining days before the race.

Saturday 27 September (ed, the race took place on 4/5 October) the route was announced and the riders began to ride far and wide for the 6 stages of the last test of the Enduro World Series, two days
hard and pure race, with about 95 km to go, divided into 50km on Saturday and 45km on Sunday, for a total of 2300m of negative altitude!

And precisely because of the toughness of the race it was unthinkable that an athlete would try the various PSs 2-3 times pedaling them and then the van waltz began, with the riders looking for nothing more than a car (and mainly a driver! ) to be able to try the various stages in complete tranquility without having to waste hours in the saddle (and precious energy) to reach the departures.

Seeing all this interest is pleasant but seen from an outside eye it clashes a little with the ecological spirit that wants to bring the enduro, that is to pedal in enchanting places with your MTB,
also triggering dangerous situations with the various shuttles that literally made the hair of the various cyclists who climbed on the Manie, given the narrow roadway. For a professional race like Finale it was possible to turn a blind eye even if perhaps the idea of bringing back to more human mileage, on a single race day, could be an excellent solution to prohibit mechanized ascents in the week of the race ( then as usual there will be the smart ones who will try to use the van even if it is forbidden but on the other hand even the epo is not allowed in many sports but it is still used well).

If you get caught you are disqualified. One can use the shuttles as he sees fit in the previous weeks so as not to ruin the business of the various companies operating in the sector, it is logical that by doing so the routes can also not be kept secret until the end. Therefore, bringing the races back to 3-4 PS (with maybe a repeat 2 times), it would guarantee more spectacle given the more intense tests, the less dispersed public (which right now is forced to travel like a madman to see the race) and the fight would be on the edge of pennies. The important thing is that this "modus operandi" does not enter even the minor competitions, otherwise it would be a wrong philosophy.

[email protected] I am a fan of everything that has 2 wheels: at a young age I practiced road and track cycling (Italian Allievi champion). At the age of 18 I passed into the cross country competing at national/international level as an Under23. Past Elite, I made the choice to take things more lightly from a training point of view, and my love for gravity disciplines was born, training me as an FCI MTB instructor and guide. Now I have made passion my profession by managing 2 MTB centers on the island of Elba (Bike Center Elba and Elba MTB), creating the FANTAmtb and telling in an ironic but professional way everything that revolves around MTB thanks to 365mountainbike and 365TV (YouTube'PULITI dentro BIKER fuori').
