It is enough to leaf through any specialized or non-specialized magazine to realize how enormous it is
amount of more or less advertising information regarding the athlete's diet.
These notions, instead of producing greater awareness, very often generate a
feeling of uncertainty and confusion in both athletes and coaches.
We tend to face the single particular, that biochemical step that can be
influenced by a certain product, losing sight of the big picture
argument.
As a nutrition and dietetic consultant, I believe it is correct to start by setting out some general criteria; and then move on to address specific issues relating to the activity practiced.
General criteria
1) In recent years the topic of nutrition has assumed a much greater importance than
its ability to produce results; it is necessary to give greater importance to training
with respect to nutrition and even more with respect to supplementation.
2) The most scientific of power supplies does not provide an ounce of muscle or sporting result in
lack of proper training.
3) For most sedentary people, it is more important to talk about food tips that allow them to eat properly rather than diets or supplementation plans.
4) Better to have a varied and well-balanced diet rather than recklessly relying on supplements. Many foods can contain all nutrients in a balanced way, which is not often the case with food supplements.
5) It is misleading to try to count the calorie needs by analyzing all
individual food nutrients; the variables to consider and monitor are too many, both for how much
concerns the food (its seasoning, the difficulty in weighing), both for the characteristics of the
person: sex, morphology, basal metabolism, hormonal balance, sedentary or active life,
body composition, psychological aspect with which one faces the diet, and more.
6) There are many reasons why nutrition is important for agonists:
have the right energy to face the workouts; speed up recovery times and above all
face the race in the best possible form. all aspects that to be achieved require good planning and not improvisation,
Conclusions
We therefore give due importance to nutrition, we learn to eat healthily and
enjoyable , making the "diet" a lifestyle to be followed for a long time and not a "
sacrifice “or a restriction to be made for a few months.
And let's make it performant for athletes in order to maximize training results
