Stephane Tempier: "I leave the MTB world without regrets"

After the world championship of Les Gets, Stephane Tempier decides to abandon the competitive activity, after many years at high levels, and will join the technical staff of Team Rockrider.

It's great to see how Stephane's career started in Les Gets (2004) and now ends in Les Gets. In fact, the first real international result was precisely ai 2004 Junior World Championships where he closed in 2nd place behind a certain Nino Schurter. From there he began his growth dominating the U23 category at national level with the victory of 2 national titles and the French Cup.

In 2012 he won his first Roc d'Azur and participates in the London Olympic Games where it closes with an honorable 11th place. In the years to come he gets very good results at national level and always fights for the first places in the World Cup, like in 2017 when he finished 2nd in the World Cup overall.

In 2019 is bronze at the world championships behind Nino Schurter and Mathias Fluckiger. After a spell at Trek Factory Racing, Tempier was announced as a leader in the new "Rockrider Racing Team": his role was to pass on his experience to young people and to grow the team.

This year did not see one of the best years of the French athlete, but a French marathon title did not let it slip away. Here are his words: "A personal decision, I've been thinking about it for several weeks. Competitive sport will always be part of my life but in a different way. A page is turning in my life as a high-level athlete. I want to thank in particular some people who have always accompanied me:
My coach Olivier Maignan, who has been pulling his hair out for a decade to optimize my training.
My next teams: BH Suntour (Michel Hutsebaut), Trek Factory Racing (Jon Rourke) and finally Rockrider Racing Team (thanks Sam Roces for the trust!). A special thought to the Bianchi family with Massimo Ghirotto and Felice Gimondi. They trusted me twice and for ten seasons. Without forgetting the French team with Yvon Vauchez and Yvan Clolus. My story really started in 2004 with a silver medal at the Junior World Championships. I announce my retirement from sports here (Les Gets) where many friends have formed (Maxime Marotte to name just one!). I give up without regrets, proud of how far I have come.

ppgad@pucrs.br I am passionate about everything that has 2 wheels: in my youth I practiced competitive cycling on the road and on the track with good results. At the age of 18 I moved to cross country competing at national/international level as U23. Once I passed Elite, I made the choice to take things easier from the training point of view, and that's how my love for gravity disciplines was born, training as an FCI MTB instructor and guide. Now I have made my passion my profession by managing 3 MTB centers on the island of Elba (Elba MTB), creating the FANTAmtb and telling in an ironic but professional way, everything that revolves around MTB thanks to 365mountainbike and 365TV (YouTube 'PULITI dentro BIKER fuori').
