Gloria Scarsi: the new enduro talent comes from the street

Gloria Scarsi is a new athlete in the gravity panorama: a true talent of cycling since, at only 22 years old, she can already boast many victories at an international level.

Gloria (born in 2000 from Albenga) after many victories on the road, she decided to devote herself to enduro, with excellent results right away, such as 9th place in the last race EWS held in Petzen Jamnica.

Hi Gloria and thank you for the time you are dedicating to us. Many readers do not know your excellent past as a road racer, how would you tell it in a few words? What were the most important results?

I started racing on the road when I was 7 years old, at 15 I won my first two Italian championships, one on the road and one on the track, when I passed junior (18 years old) I entered the national team and managed to win a championship of the world and 4 European championships. I am very satisfied with my past, despite all the ups and downs that cycling can give you.

Why this change of course from road to off-road?

In the last year the road no longer gave me emotions, even winning almost all the races and the various titles. I tried to continue but my head and my heart had already abandoned everything, and in order not to continue to feel bad I made this decision.

Was there any person who helped you in the transition between road and off-road, example on driving technique? Did you often ride MTB as a child?

Since I met Alia I have taken a quality step, she taught me everything she knew and even now she is the one who helps me with everything, in the bad moments and in the moments when I have some doubts she is there to give me advice on how face obstacles.

Last season you had a bad injury (ed, in the Italian enduro championship she fell fracturing 7 vertebrae). Have you fully recovered? Did it leave any psychological scars on you?

Yes, I recovered very well, on a psychological level it left me nothing, only the fact of learning the tracks before opening the gas (ahaha).

Does the world of the e-enduro appeal to you?

It is a world that is constantly growing: yes, I like it, above all because with those bikes you can make technical climbs that you can't do with muscle, maybe in the future I will do a race, the team will decide.

And now there is the EWS in Val di Fassa: is it too much to hope for a podium?

I am in my first year, nothing is impossible, but I am not in a hurry on the results, I still have a lot to learn.

What are your medium / long-term goals?

I had confirmation this morning that I will participate in all the news so in August towards Canada and America, I can't wait. I'm a bit superstitious to talk about my goals, we'll hear from you at the end of the season to see if I got there or not.

Thanks Gloria and good luck for this weekend in Val di Fassa.

Thank you very much and I'm waiting for you all to cheer 💪🏻

ppgad@pucrs.br I am passionate about everything that has 2 wheels: in my youth I practiced competitive cycling on the road and on the track with good results. At the age of 18 I moved to cross country competing at national/international level as U23. Once I passed Elite, I made the choice to take things easier from the training point of view, and that's how my love for gravity disciplines was born, training as an FCI MTB instructor and guide. Now I have made my passion my profession by managing 3 MTB centers on the island of Elba (Elba MTB), creating the FANTAmtb and telling in an ironic but professional way, everything that revolves around MTB thanks to 365mountainbike and 365TV (YouTube 'PULITI dentro BIKER fuori').
