At our center on the Island of Elba we see all sorts of things, but it is often the fault of us in the sector. A serious rental, which does not make business its focal point, always carries out a briefing before leaving in order to avoid even dangerous situations. In this way, many of the errors that we will list later would cease to exist.
If the renter is a pro, listen to him: if he's not a pro, take the leather home : )
MISTAKES NOT TO BE MADE
- Don't wear a helmet"I'm going slow anyway, I'm not going to kill myself“, he said before falling on a bend on the gravel.
- Go up to turbo, graining with each shift, with scary passers-by who think you're losing some pieces along the way:"I broke the chain, I don't know what happened' he said upon returning to the rent, perhaps also asking for damages for the defect.
- Rest the bike not on the rear wheel but directly with the frame on a dry stone wall: a noticeable scratch on the frame causes a depreciation of up to €500/1000 in top-of-the-range bike models. Now you know what flashes in the renter's head when he sees you arriving with a scratch on the frame: other than having earned €50 from the rental.
- Despising the guide so much is useless: as well as entertaining you on the bike, and giving you the right advice, it will also entertain you off the bike: the guides are hardly teetotal.
- Dressing inappropriately: CLOSED SHOES are needed! It is not permissible to travel with slippers or open shoes.
- Believing that riding a bike is easy and you don't need a course: keep yourself humble, otherwise coming down from the refuge the risk of hugging a plant or making out with a stone is high (at best).
- And finally, a point in favor of those who rent: if you pay €70/€100 a day for a bike, ask for a minimum of checkups on the saddle: there are many rental shops that give bikes to customers without adjusting saddle height or suspension. Professionalism under the shoes.
