Looking through the list of riders for this Rampage 2022 one of the things that stood out to me is the average age of the free riders. A twenty-one, a twenty-five and all the others straddling the thirty, with the mathematical average of 29,7. We would be led to believe that such an extreme event is dedicated to crazy kids, instead the numbers tell us that the big names on average have an age when others think about starting a family and taking out a home loan.
In fact, a family man is in the race, Cam Zink in past editions has always been able to count on a special fan club.
Why are the riders so 'old'?
That's the question I asked myself after reading the presentation we madeor. Of the 18 who will participate in the Rampage, many are of an age that might seem tall.
Probably the reason for this fact lies in the great difficulty that this Rampage expresses. Reviewing the videos of the first editions and comparing them to the current ones, it is evident that it is no longer enough to jump down from a canyon; hoping to land and that the MTB does not disintegrate; Driving skills, mastery of the vehicle, the ability to visualize the jumps and determine the speed at which to take them are necessary, as well as a great ability to manage stress, because we must never forget that these athletes materially risk their lives at every meter that they travel in the Utah desert. All qualities that are acquired only with experience.
probably at the basis of this paradox there could be this very element.
