Matej Mohorič (Bahrain Victoriou) wins the Milano Sanremo downhill and, looking closely, you can see how the Slovenian athlete used a dropper post, where he obtained a small but decisive advantage in the final descent.
Now we can say that telescopic seatposts have reached all sports: it is not the first time that a road rider has tried a telescopic seatpost (Vincenzo Nibali confirms this).
Matej Mohorič declared at the end of the race: "They had prepared a special bike for me to improve downhill. At first I didn't think it was a big advantage, but after trying it I saw it was. I was able to keep up with the best and then open the throttle downhill".
With this precedent, other riders and teams are now more than likely to open their minds to the use of telehandlers on the road. The Milano Sanremo is an ideal ride to use it since the weight you add to the bike is not a determining factor: the climbs are short and have no particularly steep slopes, where the additional weight is felt. However, the final descent to the finish is very technical and could be a decisive point for the race. Matej Mohorič and his team understood this perfectly and can now boast of having won Milan Sanremo.
The Descent of Matej Mohoric
"I risked a lot - added Mohoric - I took the last corner too hard and slipped with both wheels but I saved myself: with the telescopic it is easier to hold the bike and luckily nothing happened. In the last corner I made a mistake in changing gears and the chain fell, but I never lost my mind and I believed in it until the end".
