The merger of two factories into one, as announced last Tuesday by the Accell Group, must lead to more efficient and sustainable production. However, an Accell Group spokesperson confirmed to Bike europe that an investment plan for this modernization has not yet been developed.

WHO IS ACCELL GROUP?
Accell Group produces bicycles, bicycle parts and accessories. They are among the leaders of the European e-bike market. In their portfolio we find Haibike, Winora, Ghost, Batavus, Koga, Lapierre, Raleigh, Sparta, Babboe and Carqon. XLC is its own brand of bicycle parts and accessories.
Accell Group announced this week plans to modernize its Heerenveen factory to enable greater customization and quickly respond to market demand for premium bicycles.
We strongly estimate that our Heerenveen factory will close in the long term. In the future we will continue to produce the Sparta, Batavus, Koga, Babboe and Carqon brands in the Netherlands. We simply no longer produce all models of all brands in the Netherlands and some of the current production will be transferred to the group's other production facilities in Hungary and Turkey – Tjeerd Jegen, CEO Accell
The company sees the merger of two Heerenveen plants as a necessity to use our European production network more efficiently, reduce operational complexity and improve its competitive position. Unfortunately, this has consequences for our employees in Heerenveen and we understand the impact for some of them – Tjeerd Jegen, CEO Accell
Unions and the Accell Group will open discussions to develop a solid social plan starting next week.
