11 September 2016 – A fantastic World Championship that has just ended in Val di Sole: tens of thousands of spectators crowded the finish area and the entire track. The Black Snake proved to be very dry and treacherous. Pippo Marani's route is a true concentration of technical difficulties. The huge stones, the roots, the prohibitive slopes, everything covered in a deep layer of dust that reduced grip and confidence to a minimum. Without a doubt the most challenging track in the history of DH.
And in prohibitive conditions, as happened in Champery, the British phenomenon Danny Danny returned and for the second time in his career made history by winning the rainbow jersey. Second position for a very young driver in his first year in the Elite category but already Junior World Champion last season: Laurie Greenland. Same nationality, same team and same bike as the new World Champion Danny Hart (Mondraker).
Third position for an excellent Florent Payet: the Frenchman drove cleanly and solidly, achieving his best career result. Fourth position for Troy Brosnan, always present but lacking the winning streak. Loic Bruni, outgoing World Champion, has to give up his dream of reconfirming the title due to a puncture in the upper part.
Aaron Gwin, like every year, is the victim of the World Cup curse. One of the most successful riders in the history of DH who, for one reason or another, has not yet managed to wear the rainbow jersey. This year it could have been a good time on a physical track like the American likes, but a rear tire puncture stopped him in the first part of the woods.
Among the Italians, Francesco Colombo descends well and places himself in 31st position. The same goes for Johannes Von Klebelsberg who ranks just behind, in 36th place. Carlo Caire also drives well and goes down with a good time which earns him 40th place. Gianluca Vernassa finishes 53rd with a small fall, while Loris Revelli falls more significantly in the upper part and withdraws from the course, fortunately without consequences. Mario Milani further behind finishes in 89th position.
Among the women, Rachel Atherton concludes the truly perfect season by winning all the stages of the World Cup plus the world title. The Briton wears the rainbow jersey for the third time ever and for the second time here in Val di Sole, where in 2008 she won her first world title. Myriam Nicole can do nothing to Atherton's power and she places 2nd place. Tracey Hannah is third, over 9 seconds off the fastest time.
Alia Marcellini conquers the hot seat which she holds for a long time, only to give way to the top riders. 6th position for her who achieved her best performance of the season in the most important race, in a challenging week which saw her also obtain 6th place in the final of the 4X World Championship just two days ago. Immediately behind Alia is the Italian Champion Veronika Widmann (7th place). Eleonora Farina fell victim to a fall when she was scoring excellent splits (5th place in 2nd split), too bad.
Gold and silver for Canada in the Junior category. The favorite Finn Iles does not disappoint expectations and wins the world title in his first year in the Junior category. Compatriot Magnus Manson finishes in second place, about 4 seconds from first place. The Frenchman Gaetan Vige scores the third time in the category which earns him the bronze medal. The Italian Andrea Bianciotto, winner of yesterday's qualifying heat, saw his world championship dream fade away due to a slip and finished in 7th position. Federico Monzoni finishes in 25th position, slowed down by a rear puncture. Both Lorenzo Sorrentino, who finished in 69th place, and Mirko Manazzale, who instead decided not to continue his run, were victims of a fall.

Alessia Missiaggia is the new Junior World Champion! At her first World Championship, as a first-year athlete in the Junior category, she won the rainbow jersey ahead of the American Samantha Kingshill and the French Flora Lesoin, bronze medalist. Unfortunately, Beatrice Migliorini remained out of the podium, slowed down by two falls and finishing in fourth place.
