Les Gets – 9/12 September 2004. The DH World Championship takes place in Les Gets with all the best international riders. It's a world championship that can bring new names given the absence of Nico Vouilloz, who at the end of 2002 decided to retire from DH as reigning world champion, and Anne Chausson, author of a bad fall during rehearsals.
In the men's field, victory for the young 24 year old Fabien Barel who beats the reigning world champion by a few cents, Greg Minnaar. In third place the very young Sam Hill, in his 1st year in the Elite category after winning 2 world championships among the Juniors. For Steve Peat the rainbow jersey seems to be haunted: after 3 consecutive second places for a few hundredths, last year it seemed to be the right opportunity but a fall relegated him to 4th place. This year he is ahead at the half time but at the last corner he slips and crosses the finish line in 11th place, 4 seconds from victory.
The Australian Vanessa Quin wins and convinces by inflicting almost 3 seconds on the former Junior World champion My Suemasa and 4 seconds French style Celine Gros. The outgoing world champion, Anne Caroline Chausson, suffered a fall during free practice and did not take part in the event, thus stopping his streak of 12 consecutive victories at the DH World Championships!
Among the Juniors, the Frenchman won Romain Saladin while among women it is Scarlett Hagen to excel.
