The 11 World Cup took place in Sweden, precisely in Are (19/1999 September 1999). 11.000 paying spectators were present, an extraordinary result. Regarding the results nothing changes, it is now a monologue that has lasted for more than 5 years (omitting the Junior categories): world champions the French Nico VouillozAnne Caroline Chausson. France's dominance at the World Cup continues, stocking up on rainbow jerseys. The opponents can only fight for 2nd place even if in the women's race, the Finnish Katja Repo she threatened Chausson until the end, finishing just 1"61 behind. Third position for Switzerland Sari Jorgensen.

"I drove well“-Reports Vouilloz-“I'm happy I didn't crash in the final as it was just a moment given the muddy conditions of the track. On Wednesday in qualifying I crashed heavily and wasn't 100%. It's still difficult to win a world championship, you don't have to lose your concentration because it's just a moment to make a mistake and throw the race away. I take care of everything in detail, from the suspension to the tire pressure, perhaps this is precisely what makes the difference with my opponents".
After the arrival, Vouilloz had to wait for the last 2 competitors, namely his compatriots Pascal and Barel but when it was clear that they would not overtake him he exclaimed:”and what is this? the Eighth?".

"I lost my concentration and fell, losing a lot of time, I could have seriously challenged Nico“, he reports Mickael Pascal. The American is third Eric carter, Dual Slalom specialist:”I am much more comfortable in Dual Slalom, I have a very aggressive ride and it is not always the right technique for the downhill".

Anne Caroline Chausson:”I wasted time pedaling, the mud made everything heavier and I no longer had any legs" -admits the Chausson- "I then tried to ride cleanly but pushing hard as I felt my rivals were close in terms of times“. Indeed the Flying Finn Katja Repo he finished just 1 hundredths behind the Frenchman. Repo is very spectacular in the jumps and ends the race with a nice screb in the final jump even if the victory faded in the more technical section with the roots where a slip caused him to lose more than that abundant second which cost him the victory: ”I'm very happy. I was nervous before leaving but the many Finns cheered me on. My goal was to get into the top 5 so I'm satisfied.".

In third place the very young Danese Sari Jorgensen, in her 1st year in the category and world champion last year among the Juniors:”I would have liked to have control but I didn't have it, I was also the victim of a fall that made me lose ground“, reports a happy Jorgensen.

Missy Jupiter, 1994 world champion, finished in 23rd place after a first intermediate time on Chausson's times:”I was changing gear before a corner and my manettino broke, resulting in problems for the whole race“. The 36 year old Spaniard Mercedes gonzalez, already on the podium at the world championships, fell during practice and broke her ankle: a shame given that this was supposed to be her last world championship.

In the men's juniors victory for the British Nathan Rennie"During the race I kept telling myself to go fast and I fell. But then I kept repeating it even after I got up and won." Rennie, third last year in the Junior World Championship won by Barel, has done it again this year. According to the British compatriot David Wardell to over 10 seconds. Third, a few cents behind Wardell, an Australian, Jared Rando.

The route was very technical due to the heavy rain that fell in the previous days. The average speed of the route was 38.29 km/h. Among the Junior women, victory for the French favorite Sabrina Jonnier, who after 3 medals managed to grab the gold:”it was important for me to win today. I came close to winning gold twice in the youth categories and today I managed to win in the mud". Silver medal for Kathy Pruitt (United States) and bronze for Helen Gaskell (Great Britain). In fourth place a very young 16 year old French girl, Céline Gros…is this the new Chausson?
