29-31 August 2019 – The Swiss Nino Schurter wins her eighth world title in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Canada, while among the women the world title goes to Pauline Ferrand-Prevot. Schurter wins forcefully, as he usually does, separating everyone with a lap and a half to go. Behind Schurter is his compatriot Mathias Flückiger and the Frenchman Stephane Tempier. Luck did not help the Italian Gerhard Kerschbaumer who had second place in his pocket, but due to a puncture on the rear wheel during the last lap, he then lost ground arriving at the finish line in 5th place with a gap of 1 '02” by the winner. As for the other Italians, the Braidot twins performed well with Luca in 12th place while Daniele in 17th.
In the women's event Pauline Ferrand-Prevot returns to the top step of the world championship podium, winning her third rainbow jersey. On the Mont-Sainte-Anne track she managed to prevail over the Swiss Jolanda Neff and the Australian Rebecca McConnell. Disappointment for Eva Lechner, 21st place, while the young Chiara Teocchi is 22nd.
Among the U23s, the phenomenon Vlad Dascalu shows himself, a Romanian athlete capable of winning the national title, world cup and world championship in the same year. A hat-trick that has only been awarded to great champions like Nino Schurter and Peter Sagan, just to name 2. Among the U23 women, Sina Frei excels and manages to repeat the world title already won in 2017.
In the junior category, it is worth mentioning the excellent performance of the Italian Andreas Ciccone, 3rd place, behind the British Charlie Aldridge and Luca Martin.
