6/8 September 2018 – the XC World Championship Lenzerheide they were very exciting even if, as predicted, the race was won by Nino Schurter. Beautiful performance by the Italian Gerhard Kerschbaumer, really on the ball this season, as well as the only one capable of countering the Swiss.
On the first lap, Schurter tried to go all alone, but from behind it was Kerschbaumer who closed on him and then kept the pace high. Luca Braidot also did very well, very active in the chasing group.
Great performance by Mathieu Van der Poel who, having been delayed at the start, made a great recovery, returning to his pursuers and then chasing the leading duo Schurter and Kerschbaumer.

The race continues smoothly when Schurter increases the pace and Kerschbaumer is forced to chase: nothing to be done against Schurter's excessive power who wins another world title. 2nd Gerhard Kerschbaumer, 3rd goes to the other phenomenon Mathieu Van der Poel. Fourth and fifth respectively Enrique Avancini and Florian Vogel. Excellent ninth place for Daniele Braidot, who took the place of his brother Luca, who was leading in the first laps.
Among the women, Jolanda Neff was unable to impose herself, finishing fourth and far from the gold medal winner Kate Courtney (+2'13"). The Swiss, holder of the title won a year ago in Australia, started with the underdogs by virtue of the World Cup she won by dominating the entire season. Despite a good start, she immediately gave way to the breakaway of Annika Langvad (gold medal in 2016 in Trentino), who was however joined by Kate Courtney, very technical in the difficult sections of the track. The 22-year-old American, in her first elite World Championship, finished ahead of the 34-year-old Dane (+46″) and the Canadian Emily Batty (+1'58").

Among the juniors, victory went to the Austrian Laura Stigger and Alexander Balmer. Among the U23s, the South African Alan Hatherly wins and convinces while among the female U23s the Swiss Alessandra Keller excels.
