6/9 September 2012 – Nino Schurter he wins the Elite world championship for the second time, beating his two national teammates Lukas Fluckiger and Mathias Fluckiger... a true Swiss domination in the queen category of the Elite.
In the first 2 laps Nino Schurter he competed with Marco Fontana and Fabian Giger, with the latter breaking away during the 3rd lap and being caught by the chasing group which included the Fluckiger brothers, Absalon, Kulhavy, Tempiere and Fumic. In front Fontana and Schurter continue to increase their lead but with 3 laps to go Marco Fontana breaks away on the downhill and will continue to lose ground even after the chasing group has closed in on him. Meanwhile Nino Schurter the solitary race continues with the Fluckiger brothers behind them trying to catch up to the race leader.
On the last lap there are 5 Swiss in the top 4 with only Fontana breaking the Swiss hegemony by moving into 4th position together with Fabian Giger. Julien Absalon passes in 6th place while Jaroslav Kulhavy is at the back, never entered the race, in 13th position. During the last lap the positions remained unchanged with only Marco Fontana giving up sharply while Absalon ran a great last lap finishing in 4th place just a few seconds from the podium. In the end therefore a great victory for Schurter who demonstrated that the only one capable of troubling him is Kulhavy who is in great form.
Among the women, the French Breton Julie Bresset also took home the world championship after the Olympics, completing a fantastic season... and at just 23 years of age, that is, in her 1st year in the Elite category. In 2nd place the evergreen Gunn Rita Dahle while the bronze goes to the American Georgia Gould. Another bad day, after London, for Catherine Pendrel, who never entered the race.
