MTB XC World Championships 2010, Mont Sainte-Anne (CANADA)
Josè Antonio Hermida 2010
1/4 September 2010 – In 14 years of career the Spaniard José Antonio Hermida had never won a world championship cross country elite. He did it for the first time in Mont-Sainte Anne, preceding the Czech by 29″ Yaroslav Kulhavy and the South African by 1'10”.Burry stander. His joy and emotion for this title are uncontainable, kissed by Lady Luck, who in this World Championship had more fun than ever messing up the cards, but a fair reward for a race always on the attack and for an entire career. Illustrious victims in various degrees and various phases, the Swiss Nino Schurter (author of a slip and 2 punctures), the Frenchman Julian Absalon (also struggling with many flaws in the technical sections) and, above all, as far as we are concerned, ours Marcus Aurelius Fontana, forced to retire due to a mechanical failure (breakage of the chassis). At the end, the best of the blues emerged Tony longo, 24th at 9'13” with a strong comeback finish, followed shortly behind by Martin Fruet, 25th, while Andrew Tiberi he finished in 51st place. The winner is therefore Antonio Hermida ahead of Jaroslav Kulhavy, only 29" behind, and Burry Stander.
The Polish one Maja Wloszczowska he interpreted the race perfectly, with a course made slippery by the rain. In second and third position respectively Irina Kalentieva e Willow Koerber, while ours Eve Lechner he finished a little further back, heavily delayed by a puncture. The last lap is very exciting for the back-up positions, as the petite American Willow Koerber takes an advantage over Catherine Pendrel, closely followed by Irina Kalentieva. But Koerber slides downhill, and her opponents overtake her. A series of errors, falls and slides uphill mean that in the end, behind Maja Wloszczowska who deservedly won the gold, Irina Kalentieva in a clear recovery won the silver. The bronze medal goes to Willow Koerber, while in fourth place the Canadian Pendrel precedes the Austrian Elisabeth Osl. Eva Lechner paid for the effort of the previous lap, finishing in tenth position.
