Les Gets – 9/12 September 2004. A new star is born in the international XC world and it goes by the name of Julian Absalon, who at just 24 years old went on to score a historic double: Olympics and World Championships in the same year. On this occasion he trails his compatriot by 57". Cedric Ravanel and 1'44” Thomas Frischknecht, MTB legend who won a bronze medal at the world championships 14 years after the first Olympics in Durango (where he won silver).
Nothing to do against it Gunn-Rita Dahle. The thirty-two year old Norwegian won her second world title in Livigno by inflicting very heavy gaps, with only her feet Marja Wloszczowska (Poland, 2nd) e Alison Sydor (Canada, 3rd) to stay under 4 minutes behind. In this race, however, the Norwegian found a very strong rival, the 21-year-old Polish Wloszczowska who will certainly be a future protagonist of international women's MTB.
