The 1st MTB World Championship was held in Durango, Colorado (24 September): the location of the World Championship is in Purgatory, a valley in the South West, on the border with New Mexico. Eight of the ten medals up for grabs were won by Americans.
There are 2 specialties: Cross country and DownhillIn many cases, the athletes participated in both disciplines, using the same bicycle. The Italian national team was represented by about fifteen athletes: Matteo Toscan, Paolo Rosola, Paola Pezzo, Claudio Caporali, Valentino Fois, Claudio Vandelli, Riccardo Debertolis, Adelino Piccinotti, Sergio Fantin, Oscar Lazzaroni, Nicola Mennucci, Giovanna Bonazzi, Maria Giulia Canello, Mario Noris, and Patrizia Spadaccini.
The best of the Italians is Mario Noris, 7th in the Senior race.
