The 1991 Mountain Bike World Cup was the first ever. Organized by the International Cycling Union (UCI) and supported by Grundig (German consumer electronics company), it takes place in 9 stages cross country.
It could only be an affair between Americans, given the origins of this sport: victory for John Tomac in the men's field while Sara Ballantyne in the women's field.
