The 2001 Mountain Bike World Cup organized by the International Cycling Union (UCI) and supported by Tissot, is contested over four disciplines: cross country, Stopwatch, downhill and dual slalom, with eight stages for each discipline. The third stage of downhill and dual slalom and the fourth of cross country, originally planned for Whistler, were moved to Grouse Mountain.

Wonderful season for Roland Green who takes home the World and World Cups. Behind him, a young Josè Antonio Hermida and Miguel Martinez. In the women's field, Barbara Blatter wins consistently ahead of Caroline Alexander and Margarita Fullana.

Among the teams, victory for the Specialized team led by the terrible female trio Blatter, Alexander and Fullana. Behind them, Volvo Cannondale and Giant Bicycles.

WORLD CUP TIME TRIAL 2001

In 2001, the UCI included a new discipline: the time trial, a single lap on the race course. This specialty did not catch on in the following years and was only able to count this edition.
