The men's BMX trials of the XXIX Olympiad were held from August 20 to 22 at the Laoshan BMX Field. The gold medal went to the Latvian Māris Štrombergs (in the men's field) and to the fantastic Anne Caroline Chausson (in the women's field). Strombergs dominates the final with the Americans Mike Day e Donny Robinson who have to settle for 2nd and 3rd place. Bad luck for one of the favourites, the Australian Jared Graves who is hit on a curve by the South African Sifiso Nhlapo and falls.
The Italian Manuel De Vecchi stops in the quarter-finals.
In the women's final there is a challenge between the favourites Shanaze Reade and multiple DH world champion Anne Caroline Chausson. Chausson leads the entire final but the Breton tries several times to overtake her, including the last corner where she tries everything and falls, thus losing a certain medal. Chausson wins and Americana takes third place Jill Kintner.
