Filip Meirhaeghe (born 5 March 1971, Ghent), won 4 medals at the MTB world championships, an Olympic medal (silver in Sydney 2000) and 11 world cup events. At the end of his career he raced for Specialized in MTB and then for Domina Vacanza-Elitron on the road. He was XC world champion in 2003 participating in the Athens Olympic Games where he finished in 2nd place.
However, on 24 July 2004, just before the Athens Olympics, he admitted the use of EPO after being tested positive in the world cup test in Canada: "I wanted to win the Olympics" was his excuse and he was disqualified until 1 January 2006 where he promptly returned to racing with Landbouwkrediet-Colnago on the road (3-year contract) and for Versluys-Landbouwkrediet-Sportstech on mountain bikes. He retired in 2009.
