MTB XC WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS | Ready, go and Mathieu Van der Poel falls! [video]

Mathieu Van der Poel crashes during the 1st lap and is forced to retire after hitting his face.

He had said it: "I haven't used the MTB for a year” and it was seen from the banal fall that staged a lack of sensitivity in the off-road. A real shame for the Dutchman who hit his face violently and withdrew. After the Tokyo Olympics, another MTB disappointment. But he will know how to recover.

VIDEO FALL MATHIEU VAN DER POEL

My front wheel slipped on a gravel patch, which was one of the easiest parts of the circuit. My sensations on the MTB bike were good all week and then I crashed in the least expected area when I had made a good start. I feel angry with myself. I will also draw strength from this. This makes me stronger. It doesn't affect my plans to race MTB. The goal is still the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. I have to thank Tom Schellekens for getting an Olympic spot. Inside it was all a lucky accident – Mathieu Van der Poel

[email protected] I am a fan of everything that has 2 wheels: at a young age I practiced road and track cycling (Italian Allievi champion). At the age of 18 I passed into the cross country competing at national/international level as an Under23. Past Elite, I made the choice to take things more lightly from a training point of view, and my love for gravity disciplines was born, training me as an FCI MTB instructor and guide. Now I have made passion my profession by managing 2 MTB centers on the island of Elba (Bike Center Elba and Elba MTB), creating the FANTAmtb and telling in an ironic but professional way everything that revolves around MTB thanks to 365mountainbike and 365TV (YouTube'PULITI dentro BIKER fuori').
